We think that says it best; a great choice for … new beginnings!
Although this is a picture book about growing up, the nostalgic paternal love woven into this picture book is timeless. If I were to receive this as a gift from my parents at any age, it would touch me and no doubt make a few tears spring up.
This story has a beautiful albeit simple premise: you can be anything you want to be. Smart, brave, kind, clever; the world is your oyster and you can do absolutely anything. Not only that, but the beginning and the ending of the book really sandwich a very important message to your children – that your parents will love you and be proud of you no matter what.
What I love the most is how timeless this book is. It brings a strong feeling of love which is impactful in its message at any age. And we definitely can’t go without mentioning Martin’s gorgeous artwork. With diverse characters and a huge range of pastel colours in a sweet indie-vibe art style, it’s a really nice take on children’s illustration which could easily pass as actual art prints!
