James Dean
James Dean is an American author and illustrator, best known for his work on the popular children’s book series, “Pete the Cat.” He was born in 1957 in Fort Payne, Alabama, and grew up in nearby Auburn.
Dean attended Auburn University, where he studied art and architecture. After college, he worked as an advertising art director before deciding to pursue a career in children’s books.
In 2008, Dean teamed up with writer Eric Litwin to create “Pete the Cat,” a series of books featuring a groovy blue cat who loves to sing and play his guitar. The series quickly became a hit with children and parents alike, and has since expanded to include numerous titles, as well as merchandise such as plush toys and apparel.
In addition to his work on “Pete the Cat,” Dean has also illustrated other children’s books, including “The Misadventures of Sweetie Pie” and “The Pink Refrigerator.”
