Full Official Synopsis:
All of Louis’ thoughts are very important to him.
In fact, his thoughts are so important to him that when he has something to say, his words begin to wiggle and then they do the jiggle. Then his tongue pushes all of his important words up against his teeth and he erupts, or interrupts others.
His mouth is a volcano!
My Mouth Is A Volcano takes an empathetic approach to the habit of interrupting and teaches children a witty technique to capture their rambunctious thoughts and words for expression at an appropriate time.
Told from Louis’ perspective, this story provides parents, teachers, and counselors with an entertaining way to teach children the value of respecting others by listening and waiting for their turn to speak.
About The Author
Julia Cook, M.S. is a national award-winning children’s author, counselor, and parenting expert. She has presented in thousands of schools nationally and internationally, regularly speaks at education and counseling conferences, and has published children’s books on a wide range of character and social development topics. The goal behind Cook’s work is to actively involve young people in fun, memorable stories and teach them to become lifelong problem solvers. Inspiration for her books comes from working with children and carefully listening to counselors, parents, and teachers, in order to stay on top of needs in the classroom and at home. Cook has the innate ability to enter the worldview of a child through storybooks, giving children both the “what to say” and the “how to say it.”
Our Review of My Mouth Is A Volcano
Louis spends the day interrupting classmates, teachers, and parents. He gets into trouble for it, but he just can’t seem to help himself. The next day, Louis gets a taste of his own medicine when his classmates interrupt him. Louis quickly realizes that it doesn’t feel good to be interrupted. He also learns that patiently waiting for his turn to speak isn’t as hard as he thought. The book is written in rhythmic verse that makes it fun for children to listen to. Our kiddos even came up with a few additional ways Louis could be more patient. The beautiful full-page artwork by illustrator Carrie Hartman adds to the fun. The bright colors really bring the story to life. My Mouth Is A Volcano is definitely a new favorite!
