Scaredy Cat, Splat! The Adorable Return of Our Fuzzy Friend

Since we’re in the lovely fall season, it’s only right that we take a look at one of our favorite Splat the Cat shenanigans in a fun Halloween special: Scaredy Cat, Splat!

If you visit the children’s section of any bookstore or library in America today, you’ll see a fuzzy black cat named Splat.  The original Splat the Cat book came out in 2008. It swiftly rose to the top of the charts with eight additional books in the original series. And over a dozen more companion books in what is now an entire Splat universe. The character might look like he just took a tumble in your dryer, but it’s all part of his charm.

Full Official Synopsis For Scaredy Cat, Splat

It’s Halloween and Splat is determined to be the scariest cat in the class. Unfortunately he’s just too much of a scaredy-cat. He’s afraid of a little spider, and everyone says his costume looks more silly than scary. And when the teacher tells a ghost story in the dark, Splat gets so frightened that he tips over his jack-o-lantern. But when the lights go back on, the entire class is scared silly by a small, black furry creature with a big pumpkin head. Whoooo could it be?

Our Review

It’s safe to say that everyone in my house is Splat the Cat mad! There’s something so lovable about this fuzzy little friend. He really has a huge amount of childlike charm and attitude. My kids were giggling when Splat got scared by his friends’ costumes.

Also worth mentioning, the illustrator did a brilliant job at using dark/light to make the spooky Halloween theme really invigorating, without being scary. It’s a very atmospheric read, especially for those dark fall nights.

Don’t worry, Splat, your Halloween costume is super scary to us!
