Our Review
The story follows the adventures of our favourite pug, Pig. Pig is a mischievous and competitive pug who is determined to win at all costs. Pig engages in various competitions with his friend Trevor the dachshund. In each contest, Pig cheats but if Pig still doesn’t win, he throws a tantrum until Trevor lets him win anyway. Pig then gloats over his victory, while Trevor remains gracious and good-natured in defeat.
Trevor doesn’t want to compete all the time, he just wants to have fun but Pig continues to be obsessed with winning. One day, Pig challenges Trevor to a race to see who can eat their food the fastest. Pig cheats by stuffing his face as fast as he can, but he ends up swallowing his bowl. Trevor helps Pig get the bowl out of his throat and saves Pig from choking.
Pig learns his lesson, he stops being so competitive and starts to play for fun – Trevor even gets to win sometimes too!
The illustrations in Pig the Winner are bright, colorful, and whimsical, perfectly capturing the playful and mischievous nature of the characters. The characters are also full of personality, with Pig’s smug grin and Trevor’s good-natured demeanor coming through in every illustration. Kids will love taking a look at the expressive features of these fun dogs (and maybe adults will be guilty of it too).
The story of Pig the Winner is a lighthearted and entertaining read for young children, but it also teaches an important lesson about sportsmanship and the dangers of excessive competitiveness. Through Pig’s experiences, children learn that winning isn’t everything and that fair play and friendship are more important than victory.
