Our Review
Pig the Monster by Aaron Blabey is a delightful addition to the beloved Pig series. Blabey’s signature wit and charming illustrations once again come together to create a hilarious and unforgettable tail.
In Pig the Monster, it’s Halloween! Everyone’s favorite time of year! Kids everywhere rejoice at the chance to get a bag full of free candy! But no one loves treats more than our favorite slob Pig the Pug! Without any consideration or care, Pig wrecks through the streets to get his much-needed sweets. Tipping over pumpkins, stumbling into other halloween-goers, and refusing to take any less than what he wants, Pig the Pug really is a monster on this frightful night!
Of course, things go wrong for our friend. This gluttonous goblin munches down on everything in his bag. Including chocolate. Dogs can’t each chocolate – which Pig soon learns. He splutters and gags and has a very unpleasant experience. Pig learns to take things slow and eat his next Halloween haul slower – and most importantly, he learns to share.
Blabey’s illustrations in the Pig the Pug series are always hilarious – and this book is no exception. The scene where Pig pukes up his feast will sure to appeal to the youngsters and have them giggling endlessly. The costumes that the characters were are really endearing, and might serve as some Halloween inspo.
Pig learns to share and learns first-hand not to gorge on all the treats at once – hopefully saving you and your child a lesson learned the hard-way. Surprisingly, one really important message is taught here: never give dogs chocolate. Whilst the book simply addresses that the dog will be sick, obviously the consequences in reality are much more severe. This book provides a great opportunity to ensure that this lesson is taught early. Which is especially important if there’s a family dog in the picture!
