Our Review
Pig the Elf by Aaron Blabey is a delightful addition to the beloved Pig series. Blabey’s signature wit and charming illustrations once again come together to create a magical and unforgettable tail.
In Pig the Elf, Aaron Blabey once again showcases his talent for creating memorable characters and crafting engaging narratives. Pig, with his greediness and self-centered nature, sets out on a mission to ensure he receives all the presents from Santa. However, his antics lead to chaotic consequences and ultimately land him as an unwitting elf.
It’s Christmas Eve and our titular pug has written a long list of presents that he wants Santa to bring him, and he is determined to stay up all night to see him arrive. Pig’s friend Trevor tries to convince him to go to bed, but Pig refuses. He sits by the fire and waits for Santa. Finally Santa arrives and leaves out presents for Pig and Trevor. But greedy Pig confronts our Festive fella and says that he doesn’t have enough presents. Santa tries to leave but Pig very rudely continues to demand more presents. When Santa does manage to get away he takes an unwelcome guest on his sleigh, making Pig become Santa’s greedy elf. And it takes a Christmas miracle to save the greedy elf when Santa’s sleigh speeds away!
Blabey’s witty writing style and clever rhymes make Pig the Elf a joy to read aloud. Children will giggle at Pig’s outrageous attempts to outsmart Santa and claim all the gifts for himself. The colorful illustrations perfectly capture Pig’s expressions, bringing the story to life and adding an extra layer of humor.
What makes Pig the Elf truly special is the underlying message it conveys. Through Pig’s misadventures, readers learn about the importance of kindness, sharing, and the true spirit of Christmas. The story teaches children that the joy of the holiday season comes from giving and being considerate of others, rather than just focusing on receiving presents.
