It’s no surprise that a man like Jory John found his way in children’s books. Early in his career, he volunteered at an educational nonprofit in San Francisco before being hired as the program director. There he created Thanks and Have Fun Running the Country: Kids’ Letters to President Obama.

His books have landed on the New York Times bestseller list including the first (The Good Egg) and second positions (The Bad Seed). He seems pretty happy about it too!

  • Critter Jitters series

Our Review

This duo hit the nail on the head once again with Smart Cookie. This cookie is a smart cookie. Cookie found confidence, imagination, and joy through poetry.

The emphasis on smart cookie isn’t necessarily on the traditional academic side of things, but rather and individual strength. In cookie’s case: poetry. Kids can be reassured that we all have individual strengths, and will trial and error we will surely find our area of expertise.

This book certainly will hit those kids who are academically challenged especially hard, in all the good ways. This is an excellent message, which needs to be made more often.
