Well, almost everybody.
Shel (an egg) isn’t a huge fan of group activities, especially when he’s made to be “It” for a game of hide-and-seek. Nevertheless, Shel doesn’t want to let his friends down, so he reluctantly plays, anyway. But after a morning of hiding and seeking, somebody’s still missing. Will the dozen eggs friends ever be reunited?
Find out in this hilarious egg hunt adventure that reminds us to break out of our shells and help our friends in need!
About The Author
Jory John is an American author of children’s books and is known for incorporating dark humor and discussing difficult topics in his books.
It’s no surprise that a man like Jory John found his way in children’s books. Early in his career, he volunteered at an educational nonprofit in San Francisco before being hired as the program director. There he created Thanks and Have Fun Running the Country: Kids’ Letters to President Obama.
His books have landed on the New York Times bestseller list including the first (The Good Egg) and second positions (The Bad Seed). He seems pretty happy about it too!
Aside from The Food Group Series, which earned him the bulk of his awards, Jory Johns has also written:
- Critter Jitters series
- Animal Problems series
- The Terrible Two series
- Goodnight Already! series
- All My Friends… series
As well as many, many standalone books!
Our Review
This book may be a little lighter on the morals than the others in the series — but that isn’t to say it’s without some lessons. This fun book which serves as a fun little Easter Egg hunt both for the characters and for the children reading teaches us that it’s perfectly okay to want some alone time. That isn’t so say you shouldn’t still break out of your shell and have fun, of course!
Being a spin-off of the main series, and mostly just a fun little thematic story for Easter, I wasn’t too worried about the lack of overarching poignant message. Me and my nephew had an absolute blast looking for the eggs and playing along with the characters. That’s what matters most: that we had fun.
Worth a read if you’re hunting for something seasonal to read to get the kids excited for an egg hunt!
